Policy and Review Councils

The Policy and Review (P & R) Councils advise the Dean of the Graduate School on issues affecting graduate education such as degree program proposals, faculty, courses, tuition, residency requirements, advisor/advisee responsibilities, etc. Each P&R Council includes graduate student members in the ratio of one student to three faculty members. COGS votes on the student members at the first fall semester COGS General Assembly meeting.

The six P&R Councils are divided according to subject area. Each graduate degree program is assigned to one P&R Council, as listed below. The six P&R Councils are:

  1. Biological Sciences
  2. Education and Psychology
  3. Health Sciences
  4. Languages, Literature and Arts
  5. Engineering, Physical, and Mathematical Sciences
  6. Social Sciences

At the beginning of each year, a P&R Council Assembly meeting is conducted with an assembly of all P&R councils. Each P&R Councils meet once a semester, and one of the committee members is expected to report back to the General Assembly as to what occurred at that meeting.
